With the government backing to go Green in the UK, we are seeing the potential for savvy investors and property professionals looking towards the Solar and renewable technology sector.
The government backed feed in tariff scheme for Solar Photo Voltaics or PV is an excellent way to achieve return on investment and also for landlord a way to create an extra advantage in the rental market.
Feed in tariffs pay back as much as 43.3p per kilowatt produced. If you are not using the electricity generated by your PV panels, then any surplus is sold to the National Grid, at an additional 3.1p per kWh, giving a higher total rate of 46.4p per kWh.
These tariffs are available now and the date for the reduction in the tariff has been announced as 31 March 2012.

The maximum system the tariff pays up to is a 3.8kwh system.

One piece of advice would be to see what is achievable and use your properties to your advantage. Be slightly wary of rent a roof schemes these are good as your tenants get some savings on their bills however you will receive none of the FIT for the duration of the incentive.
